Eduardo Paz Ferreira is the next guest of the conference cycle «Horizontes de Futuro» and will speak on the theme «Is the future of the international system the chaos?», in a session that will take place on Thursday, February 16th, in Main Hall of the Town Hall of Loulé.

The session will be moderated by António Branco, dean of the University of Algarve.

The full professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and a specialist in European affairs comes to Loulé to talk about a topic that is on the agenda, at a time when the United Kingdom is preparing to start the process of leaving the European Union and Donald Trump was elected President of the United States of America.

 

About the speaker:

Eduardo Paz Ferreira has dedicated a significant part of his professional and academic life to European themes. At the age of 23, he headed the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the I Constitutional Government (1976 to 1977) and, in that capacity, took part in many of the bilateral talks prior to the submission of the application for membership.

Full Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, he is dean of the Legal and Economic Sciences Group and member of the General Council of the University. He chairs the European Institute and the Institute of Economic, Financial and Tax Law, where he has been promoting numerous initiatives on European themes. He has also published several articles and books on these matters. He is Jean Monnet Professor in Community Studies, a distinction awarded by the European Commission.

He has also been notable for his activity as an author, having recently released two books, «European Union Reform or Decline» and «For a Decent Society».

He has supervised dozens of doctoral and master's dissertations and has taught at Angolan, Brazilian and Mozambican universities. He has a vast scientific work in the areas of Public Finance, Financial Law, Tax Law, Competition and Regulation Law, European Law, International Development Law and Financial Markets.

He is president of the Competition Observatory. He founded and is the director of the Journal of Public Finance and Tax Law and president of the Scientific Council of the journal Regulação e Concção, also founded by him.

He was a member of the Superior Council of the Public Prosecution Service and of the Public Credit Management Institute and has been a member of the selection boards for the judges of the Court of Auditors for many years. He presided over the Portuguese Tax Association.

It prepared several bills, especially in the areas of public debt, taxation, regional finance, local finance, state business sector and municipal business sector.

He is a founding partner of Eduardo Paz Ferreira and associates, a law firm.

He was chairman of Caixa's Supervisory Board and Audit Committee.

He is a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences (Section for Economics).

It has organized dozens of conferences on economic and legal issues and has been particularly involved in the 2008 crisis and its subsequent developments.
