The Parchal Cemetery went into operation last Friday, February 3rd, culminating a work that began in 2007 and cost 1 million and 200 thousand euros.

This infrastructure responds "to the needs of the Union of Parishes of Estômbar and Parchal", having the capacity to burial 180 bodies in drawers, 300 in caves "and about 600 ossuaries", as explained by the Chamber of Lagoa.

In addition, it has an entrance, two ecumenical chapels for wakes, a florist's shop, a warehouse, a technical area and a burial area.

The work, which was divided into five phases, and took many years to complete, also included “the geomorphological study of the soil, commissioned by the current executive, and its consequent replacement by borrow land with the appropriate characteristics for decomposition body anaerobics», explains the Lagoon authority.

In this initial phase, the cemetery will be open to the public from 8:30 am to 17:00 pm, from Monday to Saturday, and will last until 23:00 pm, when there are wakes.
