The international trade agreements currently under negotiation will be at the center of the debate “Democracy and Economic Freedom – What Tomorrow?”, which will take place on Saturday, at 15 pm, at the Municipal Library of São Brás de Alportel.

The starting point for reflection on this theme will be given by the film «Demain/Tomorrow», made in 2015 by Cyril Dion and Mélanie Laurent. The exchange of ideas and opinions follows.

This event follows on from the declaration of the municipality of São Brás de Alportel as a free zone from the CETA/TTIP/TISA trade agreements (Complete Agreement on Economy and Trade; Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership Agreement; Agreement on Trade and Services, respectively) , which in the view of the São Paulo autarchy “propose to legalize the submission of European political power to international economic and financial interests”.

“Negotiated in secret and omitting clarifications to citizens, these treaties threaten the quality of life of the world population and the preservation of natural resources, with a view to financially benefiting some private groups. Furthermore, these agreements represent a threat to democracy and human rights, the environment and public health, food safety, financial control and put the future of small and medium-sized companies at risk», defended the City Council of São Brás de Alportel.

Saturday's debate will serve to "alert consciences and raise awareness of possible regulatory changes in international trade."
