The local command of the Maritime Police of Faro yesterday, January 11, it seized 35 kilos of sea cucumbers at Praia de Faro, in the middle of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.

The apprehension took place within the scope of an inspection, during which the Maritime Police detected two recreational fishermen in the catch of that species. For having caught more than allowed, the authorities instituted administrative proceedings against these fishermen.

​The seized sea cucumbers were still alive, so they were returned to their natural habitat in the Ria Formosa.

According to current legislation, the weight of daily catches of marine organisms cannot exceed two kilograms per day per practitioner.

Sea cucumbers, very popular on the Asian market, are sold for between 150 and 200 euros per kilo.
