A Meeting of Charolas and Janeiras, at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, and the Festa dos Reis, at Tôr, will liven up the municipality of Loulé, next Sunday. Both events celebrating the beginning of the year traditions are free to enter.

In the city of Loulé, several groups will sing charolas and janeiras at the Cine-Teatro, from 15:30, in an initiative organized by the Associação Grupo dos Amigos de Loulé, with the support of the local authority.

On stage will be the formations Grupo de Janeiras from AGAL/Rancho Folclórico Infantil and Juvenil de Loulé, Charola das Barreiras Brancas, Grupo de Janeiras from São Sebastião, Charola dos Machados, Fundação António Aleixo Janeiras, Charola Juventude União Bordeirense and Grupo “ The Force of Tradition” (Paderne), which will give voice to a “very significant expression in the Algarve's popular culture, reflecting various mental and symbolic perceptions of the religious universe and the ways in which the people assimilated and reinvented biblical contents and oral traditions over time», described the Chamber of Loulé.

At Tôr, attention will be focused on Reis Magos, whose day is celebrated on the 6th of January, in a party «where the traditions associated with this date will not be lacking». The program begins at 14:30 pm with a solemn Eucharist at the Igreja da Tôr, presided over by Father Carlos Matos, followed by a procession that will travel through the main streets of the village in the interior of Loulé. At 16 pm, at Largo da Igreja, the traditional auction of branches and other offers takes place.

Whoever goes to Tôr, on Sunday, can also count on music, which will be provided by the Coral and Ethnographic Group of Grândola Canta as Janeiras and by the accordionist Fábio Muchacho, who will dynamize a ball.
