Under-16 teams from Portugal, Germany, Netherlands and France will compete in the UEFA Development Tournament at the Vila Real de Santo António Sports Complex between 9 and 20 February, and there are already scouts for major European clubs with a reserved seat .

According to the Chamber of VRSA, observers from top clubs such as Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona, ​​Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Juventus, Arsenal and Valencia, in addition to the three “great” Portuguese.

The competition, which is organized by UEFA, will have the format of a quadrangular tournament, in other words, in which all teams face each other, and foresees the competition in both men and women. The men's tournament takes place on February 9, 11 and 13, while the women's tournament takes place on February 16, 18 and 20 (see times below).

For Conceição Cabrita, vice-president of the Chamber of VRSA, «for many of these athletes, this competition, held in VRSA for the fifth consecutive year, represents a passport for the great European clubs and can open doors to an international career in high competition».

The initiative is also positive for the council, as it is estimated that «each team present will bring to the VRSA Sports Complex around 30 elements (players, technical team and staff) who, during the game phase, will be housed in several hotel units in the county», according to the Vilarealense Chamber.

«The choice of Vila Real de Santo António for this competition is a sign of the recognition of the quality and projection of the VRSA Sports Complex, a structure that has attracted events of media interest – such as the Algarve Cup or the European Champion Clubs' Cup. Athletics – and dozens of internships for national and international teams», concluded the Chamber of VRSA, which supports the organization of this UEFA event.

Support also comes from the Portuguese Football Federation and the municipal company VRSA SGU.
