This was the first tranche of public support, paid on December 30, included in the sardine fishing management measures and in Decree 283-A/2016, of October 31, signed by Ana Paula Vitorino, Minister of the Sea.

For this support, 'owners of seine fishing vessels with sardine discharges in at least 5 percent of the total fish unloaded in the last three years are eligible, and fishermen who worked on board the vessel covered by the temporary cessation during the period minus 120 days in the two calendar years preceding the date of submission of the application”, explains the Ministry of the Sea.

The period of stoppage can be chosen by the shipowner between November 1, 2016 and March 3, 2017. «Most of the covered vessels opted to resort to temporary cessation in January and February», reveals the Ministry.

This entity claims to register "positively the performance and collaboration of producer organizations and the services involved in making this payment."

Applications for administrative control by the Institute for Financing Agriculture and Fisheries (IFAP) at the end of December are expected to be paid by the end of the current month of January.
