Portuguese poets will have one more opportunity to apply for the António Ramos Rosa National Poetry Award, than the Câmara de Faro launches again this year and which will «award a book of poetry written in Portuguese, fully published in the 1st edition, in 2016» with 5 thousand euros. Interested parties can submit their works until April 30th.

This is the sixth edition of this award, which was awarded for the first time in 1999. Its creation was aimed at honoring the poet from Faro that gives it its name and is also the patron of the Municipal Library of Faro, as well as “promoting the appearance of new poets, but also recognizing the work of those already consecrated”.

«In all editions there were more than 50 works in competition, having been awarded to poets of recognized literary excellence such as Fernando Echevarria, Fernando Guimarães, Nuno Júdice, João Rui de Sousa and Luís Quintais», according to the Chamber of Faro.

The prize will be awarded by a jury composed of Adriana Nogueira (University Professor), José Tolentino Mendonça (Vice-Rector of the Catholic University of Portugal) and Nuno Júdice (Poet and Essayist).
