The school canteens of Faro they will remain open during the Christmas holidays to serve meals to needy students in the county.

In this way, the 56 children enrolled in the 1st Cycle Food Support Program for Needy Students will be guaranteed “at least one meal a day”, according to the Chamber of Faro.

This measure will be in force during the entire period of school interruption, that is, from this Monday until January 2nd. The meals will be served in different educational establishments, namely EB1/JI do Carmo, EB1 de Areal gordo, EB1 da Lejana, EB1/JI da Conceição de Faro, the EB1 in Ferradeira and in the EB1 in Penha.

To this initiative aimed at children, with which the local authority "intends to give some comfort, in this festive season, to families with greater difficulties", joins the already traditional offer of Christmas baskets to families from Faro who are going through the greatest difficulties.

The 250 families that will benefit from the measure of the Chamber of Faro were flagged by the municipal services and are households with an income of less than 189,52 euros. The baskets to be delivered have a value of 16,42 (plus VAT) and contain typical foodstuffs for the festive season, including cod, olive oil, dry and canned groceries, chorizo, milk, grain and cornbread.

"This is a symbolic gesture, but full of solidarity and intended to help Farenses who are in a situation of greater fragility, and who can thus find some more comfort for the celebration of this Christmas season," according to the Chamber of Faro.
