Giving support ranging from 5 thousand to 15 thousand euros, guaranteeing a permanent residence in the municipality of Monchique for a period of 10 years are the objectives of the «Habita Jovem» program, whose first checks were delivered on the 23rd of December.

In effect, this program aims to support the «acquisition, rehabilitation or reconstruction of own and permanent housing». The «Habita Jovem» covers young people or young couples, as long as the average age does not exceed 40 years of age and whose annual income is less than 70 thousand euros in the case of couples, and 40 thousand euros for individuals.

For Rui André, mayor of Monchique, this is a “unique program in the national territory, bold and innovative, which also means a desire to settle populations in the territory where, since the 70s of the last century, there has been a significant reduction of the resident population.

“We have to reverse this trend, creating programs, carrying out initiatives that promote the settlement and growth of the population. Today's act is a window of hope that opens for young and young couples in the municipality: it is proof that we are doing different things to secure the young population, so necessary for the development of Monchique», he added.

In this sense, the «Enxoval do Bebé» initiative was, according to Rui André, «a success, where every child that is born has a direct support of 500 euros to purchase goods for the baby in the local commerce of Monchique with whom we have a partnership ", he said.
