The Union of Parishes of Lagoa and Carvoeiro delivered Christmas hampers to 153 needy families in the parish. The delivery of food items took place on 12 and 13 December and aimed to provide these households with "a more pleasant and dignified holiday", according to the municipality.
This solidarity measure also served to stimulate the local economy, since «all the goods that were part of the baskets were acquired in local commerce, as in last year, in a way to also help the economy of Lagoa and Carvoeiro».
This offer was articulated with other entities that «also deliver baskets during this period of the year, so that there is no duplication of aid, thus reaching the most needy families», highlighted the Union of Parishes of Lagoa and Carvoeiro.
The delivery of Christmas hampers to families facing greater financial difficulties is already a tradition of the Union of Parishes of Lagoa and Carvoeiro. But, recalls the municipality, the Christmas season is not the only one in which foodstuffs are delivered to the most needy households, as there is "regular delivery of baskets", as well as "food and meals left over from the canteens".
“Social action has been one of the pillars of the current executive, which has been providing support in different ways to families in difficulties in the last three years, duly referenced by the services”, revealed the board.
The offer of the baskets had the support of several entities in the parish, namely «the “All Nations Algarve” community, located in Rua do Barranco in Carvoeiro, which made a monetary donation to help the group's parents and students in the purchase of food. of ESPAMOL schools, which carried out food collection in schools, delivering food items in the DER space, as well as the Motard de Lagoa Group, which also carried out the usual food collection».
