Rodrigo Leão and Scott Matthew

The city of Loulé will host the last concerts of the round presentation of the new work of Rodrigo Leão and Scott Matthew «Life is Long», today and tomorrow, Sunday and Monday, at 18:00 and 21:30, respectively.

Originally, only tonight's show was planned, but the high demand for tickets for Sunday's concert forced Cine-Teatro Louletano to schedule an extra date for tomorrow.

«I hope that the public feels, above all, an empathy with the music we are making» is Rodrigo Leão's wish, revealed to Sul informação.

Rodrigo LeonThe Portuguese musician lifted the veil a little over the shows that he will star in today and tomorrow at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, revealing that «there are many ballads, but also recovered instrumental themes of mine».

He also took the opportunity to highlight two moments: «there is an unprecedented theme that opens the show and there is also a moment when Scott sings two songs from his latest album».

According to the Portuguese artist, whose music is sometimes characterized as orchestrated pop, «these are concerts that have more intimate moments, but there are also other moments where the songs are stronger, with drums, bass and guitars».

Having in his resume a passage through the «7th Legião», Rodrigo Leão confesses that, in his latest work, «this pop side of mine is more present», in recognition of «the influence of British pop music, which marked us a lot in the 80s and even today it is present in the things I try to do».

For the elaboration of this work, «the first two collaborations were essential» that «go so well and in a natural way, because we have so many things in common». In 2011, Scott Matthew voiced “Terrible Dawn” from the album “A Montanha Mágica”, but the two musicians only met in person six months later, when he accepted an invitation to participate in concerts in Portugal and Spain.

In 2013, the formula was repeated with “Incomplete” and “after this second collaboration there was a desire to make a whole record together”. The good relationship between the musicians was so visible that “even the people around us felt the same”.

Composing the songs on the album "Life is Long" lasted a year and a half, everything was done without haste, even because "it wasn't something that had to be done very quickly".

The distance between Lisbon and New York was bridged with the new communication highways and «that even gave us more freedom to do what we wanted». The method had already been tested in previous collaborations and was repeated. The Portuguese musician sent to the United States of America «an idea of the song recorded at home, sometimes with synthesizers, a guitar, a bass». On return from the mail, Rodrigo Leão received an mp3 recording, not least because «Scott had the freedom to write what he wanted, to make some melodies on top».

«Life Is Long» saw the light of day in September and the presentation concerts have already passed through Porto, Coimbra, Évora and Lisbon and are now arriving in the south of the country.

For March 2017, a round by Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. The gap between the two tours is linked to the fact that only a fortnight ago the album was released in Spain and "only in two weeks will it be released in the rest of the countries in Europe".
