international-day-of-prematurity-hpa-siteThe Maternity Hospital of the Private Hospital of Gambelas will mark the International Day of Prematurity, which is commemorated on November 17, with a lecture, on the same day, from 18:00 pm to 19:00 pm, in the Hospital's conference room.

The causes of prematurity are varied, the most common being those related to vaginal infections, tobacco consumption, certain nutritional habits, stress or first pregnancy after 35 years of age.

Every year, around 9.000 premature babies are born in Portugal, representing around 10% of all births.

"Despite technological and scientific evolution, prematurity is still responsible for a third of infant mortality, manifesting a direct association with the delay in neurodevelopment, both motor and cognitive, or with the increase in respiratory tract diseases", explains the Private Hospital of Gambelas.
