The audience area will become the stage in the play “Catarina", which he will join, at Teatro Lethes, in Faro, 20 actors… and a mare. The first session of this piece is scheduled for this Friday, the 18th of November, with 10 more sessions scheduled until December.

Based on a dramatic poem by Sophia de Mello Breyner, this piece, based on the story of Catarina Eufémia, has a text by Jacinto Lucas Pires.

The actress Elisabete Martins, in an interview with the program «Impressões», promoted by the Sul Informação and by Rádio Universitária do Algarve (RUA FM), he explained how the play's logistics will be: «the show will only have a capacity of 94 seats, and can be seen from the friezes and boxes. The action takes place where the audience was, which we removed».

Although there are 20 people on stage, with some «students who are doing internships with us and will also participate», in total the team is 25 people. This is because the play “Catarina” will also have the special participation of “Moçoilas”, who composed music and will sing live, with the vocal support of conductor Alves Pereira. As the play about Catarina Eufémia, the peasant from Alentejo murdered by the police, there will also be sing from the Alentejo… deconstructed.

In turn, Luís Vicente, the director, considers that «celebrating the struggle staged by Catarina Eufémia today does not mean convoking ghosts from the past or entering paths of political apology, in the strict sense. It means, rather, summoning memory and claiming a sense of dignity to which every human being is entitled, not only, but also, with the scope that Sophocles gave him in his Antigone».

As for future performances, the actress revealed that “we should go to Almada, but the circulation of the piece becomes more difficult due to the presence of Fiona [the mare]”.

In addition to tomorrow's performance, “Catarina” – and Fiona – will be at Lethes on November 19th, at 21:30 pm, November 20th, at 16:00 pm, November 24th, at 15:00 pm, November 25th and 26th, at 21:30 pm, November 27th November, at 16:00 pm, December 1, 2, and 3 at 21:30 pm and, finally, December 4, at 16:00 pm.

“Catarina” will have its debut, in a play by ACTA, by Ana Cris, who will be the protagonist. This actress “has had a discreet but brilliant career in theatre, interpreting reference texts and characters”, concludes ACTA.
