The inaugural concert of the Algarve Organ Festival, scheduled for 28 October, will take place this year at the Igreja Matriz in Portimão, as the event, for the first time, extends to the municipalities of Portimão, Tavira and Loulé, in addition to Faro.

The event, promoted for the ninth consecutive year by Associação Cultural Música XXI, will take place from October 28th to November 26th, with 10 concerts distributed by several churches in the region that have pipe organs in conditions to be played in public.

Portimão will thus host the inaugural concert of the event, on 28 October, at 21 pm, at the Igreja Matriz, with the participation of organist Nuno Alexandrino and Coral Adágio, a group residing in the city and directed by conductor António Alves. In the program, emphasis is given to the demanding work “Stabat Mater” by João Rodrigues Esteves (30-1700), for Choir and Organ.

The next concert at the Igreja Matriz in Portimão will take place on November 11, at 21 pm, with the organist Rafael Reis. In a solo presentation, works from the Italian, Portuguese and English organ school will be interpreted.

This Festival has been gaining public over the years through a concept that combines the music of renowned performers with valuable heritage elements.

The surroundings of the beauties and architectural and artistic details of the interior of the temples, which host this unique event in the Algarve region, offer the possibility of enjoying historical organs, a unique heritage of high value and unique characteristics, some of which are reference abroad.

The Algarve Organ Festival 2016 has the support of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and the Municipality of Portimão, and its communication partners are Antena 2, the Sul Informação and FM Street.
