The Fire Department of Olhão celebrates tomorrow the 85th anniversary of its municipalization. To mark the date, a solemn session is scheduled at the barracks, starting at 11:00 am and then there will be a meeting between the “soldiers of peace” and their families.
«Municipalized in 1931, the Municipal Fire Department of Olhão has played a leading role over these 85 years in helping the populations, both in the municipality, in the Algarve region and in the country», considers the Municipality of Olhão.
At the official ceremony, there will be promotions for new volunteer firefighters with the delivery of helmets and insignia, the delivery of recognition trophies and the awarding of praise and decorations.
The event will be attended by António Pina, Mayor, the District Operational Commander, a representative of the League of Firefighters and the Commander of the Fire Department.
However, “special attention will be given to the firefighters' closest family members, as a fundamental pillar in sustaining and overcoming them, especially in their most fragile and difficult phases”.
Therefore, «there will be a moment of fraternization and interaction between all those present with lunch, music and entertainment for the children».
According to the municipality of Olhão, "currently the Municipal Fire Department of Olhão has 119 elements, including 36 elements in the Fanfarra."
