Cacela Velha will host the “Poesia na Rua” initiative, which promises to fill the village's streets with poetry sessions, book presentations, conversations and round tables, on September 18th.
In addition to these activities, there will also be a street market with books and local products, as well as other events pop-up.
The initiative is based on the poetic heritage of Ibn Darraj al-Qastalli, born in Cacela, where he was born in 958, as well as other poets who were inspired by Cacela Velha, such as Abû al-'Abdarî, Sophia by Mello Breyner Andresen, Eugénio de Andrade, Teresa Rita Lopes or Adolfo C. Gago.
The program starts at 10:00 am, with activities for the youngest ones, which include hunting a poem, creative workshops, poetic-popular games and a storytelling session.
From 15:30 pm onwards, the works “Showcase of Titles for Poems”, by Adão Contreiras, and “Before the Lighting”, by Mariano Alejandro, will be presented.
Then follows the get-together “A poetry for each geography? A geography for every poem”, at 16 pm, moderated by Adriana Freire Nogueira, with the participation of poets Manuel Neto dos Santos, Luís Ene, Adília César and José Carlos Barros.
The program also includes, at 17:30 pm, the performance “Biopsi”, the poetic route “A casa na poetry”, accompanied by the trombone, as well as a retrospective session of the 5 years of Poetas do Guadiana, at 18:30 pm.
During the afternoon, there will also be space to debate the edition of poetry in the Algarve, a moment that will count with the presence of several specialized publishers (Lua de Marfim, 4 Águas, Mariposa Azul, Canal Sonora and Arandis), starting at 17:30.
In the evening, at 21 pm, the poetry party ends with poems to the ritual of the little church, where each participant can freely declaim poetry. The session will feature the presence of “Funkarmonica”, which guarantees the musical accompaniment.
«And because this is a celebration based on words, there will be many works to read and consult in front of the magnificent natural scenery of Cacela Velha, as well as a poetry clothesline where each visitor will be invited to leave their poem or take with them the one who most like it,” says the VRSA Chamber.
Admission to all activities is free.
“Poesia na Rua” is an initiative organized by the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, in partnership with the Center for Research and Information on Heritage of Cacela.
