poster final version“Professional” dogs, others abandoned by their owners and cats of various ages, with their characteristic large eyes, are the trump cards of the João da Rosa School Group Parents Association and the ADAPO association to sensitize students of various ages to be more animal-friendly, in an initiative that will take place in the different schools of the group from Olho , on Tuesday, 4th of October.

Parents and guardians of schools in João da Rosa and the Association for the Defense of Animals and Plants of Olhão will celebrate World Animal Day with various activities, including a demonstration of the PSP's cinotechnical teams (dog and man) and with personalized sessions, in all classrooms from pre-school to 9th grade, where the (difficult) work carried out by ADAPO will be made known, with the presence of abandoned animals. In these sessions, an introduction to Universal Animal Rights will be made.

Another highlight of the program is the food fundraising contest for ADAPO, which will involve the different groups in the group. In the end, the group that gathers more food wins a trip to the cinemas at Ria Shopping, in Olhão, a gift from the owner of this cultural space.

By providing a closer contact between students and animals, the two entities hope to be able to win new animal friends.

Also because it is not easy for an association like ADAPO to respond to the many requests it has. In the field for 12 years, the association began by dedicating itself to the sterilization of stray cats in the Algarve city, with the objective of «controlling the number of stray animals».

“Today, 12 years later, ADAPO is responsible for around 40 dogs, in Temporary Care Families and on the street, and close to 150 cats in two shelters, many of them available for adoption. Like many associations, ADAPO faces financial problems and a lack of food for the animals it shelters”, according to the Association of Parents and Guardians of the João da Rosa School Group.
