Jorge Pina and Luis CostaJorge Pina, who will compete in the T12 class walking event and Luís Costa, who will compete in the adapted road cycling and time trial in the H5 classes, are the two Algarve representatives at the Paralympic Games, which started yesterday, 7th September , and end on the 18th.

Born in Portimão, Jorge Pina is blind and for years was a boxer, having been national champion, even before he lost his sight. He started in athletics in 2006, and this will be his third participation in the Paralympics, after having been present in Beijing, in 2008, and in London, in 2012.

The athlete has already revealed his intention to «do better than in previous years and try to get as far ahead as possible». The T12 class walking event, in which he participates, will take place on the 18th of September.

The paracyclist Luís Costa will make his debut at the Paralympics in this edition. A resident of Portimão, an accident on the day he turned 30 took the lower part of the right side of his body. Luís Costa is an inspector of the Judiciary Police and will enter into competition on Wednesday, the 14th, in the time trial, and on the following day (September 15th) for the road cycling event, both in the H5 class.
