earthquakeAn earthquake of magnitude 4.0 (Richter), whose epicenter was located in the sea, about 110 km south of Faro, was recorded at the stations of the Continente Seismic Network at dawn this Monday, August 1st, at 04:48 am (local time), announced the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere.

IPMA reveals that the earthquake was not felt on land.

"The location of the epicenter of an earthquake is a complex physical and mathematical process that depends on the dataset, algorithms and propagation models of the seismic waves", explains the IPMA in its statement.

Thus, 'different agencies may produce slightly different results. In the same way, preliminary determinations are usually corrected later, by the integration of more information».
