Laying the foundation stone of the Chapel of the Manta Rota_VRSA (1)The foundation stone of the chapel of São João Baptista, which will be erected at Quinta da Manta Rota, in the town with the same name as Vila Real de Santo António, was launched this Monday, as part of the festivities of São João da Degola.

The work, which was launched jointly by the City Council of VRSA and the parish of Vila Nova de Cacela, has an estimated cost of 120 thousand euros and will be located in one of the highest and central points of Manta Rota beach.

This new religious facility will occupy an area of ​​around 800 square meters, in municipal public space, and will fit into the urbanization of Quinta da Manta Rota and redesign the road network, sidewalks and green areas. The project also includes the surrounding landscape arrangement.

The building to be built will have six main areas, namely altar, nave, sacristy, general room, reception and storage room.

«This equipment is intended not only to serve the parish of Vila Nova de Cacela, but also the thousands of people who visit the locality of Manta Rota during the summer», highlighting «the commitment of the parish and the county's living forces in the advance of the project”, according to the president of the Chamber of VRSA Luís Gomes.

The parish priest of Cacela, Agostinho Pinto, considered that «the laying of the first stone represents a significant act for the church and for the populations and corresponds to an old aspiration of Manta Rota and the Charitable Association 'A Manta'».
