The Algarve athlete Ana Cabecinha will be received in a party at Pechão this Wednesday, at 12:45 pm, after her participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where she secured the 6th position and consequent Olympic diploma in the 20 kilometers march, the best result of always from a Portuguese in this competition.
The marcher from Clube Oriental do Pechão arrives at the Airport of Faro at 11:30 am and goes to the headquarters of the club it represents and for which she was crowned national champion, a title she currently holds, where she should arrive at around 12:45 pm.
Here, you will be treated to a reception that, considering what happened after the other Olympics in which Ana Cabecinha participated, will be very warm. Also because the population of Olhão, especially Pechão, insists on supporting the athlete before, during and after participating in the Olympic Games.
This was the third time that the marcher from Pechão participated in the Olympics. In 2008, in Beijing, he achieved eighth place, in a race in which he set a new national record, which he still holds. At the London 2012 Olympic Games, he was ranked 9th in the same event.
In Rio 2016, Ana Cabecinha was forced to surpass herself, because, as she revealed after the race, she suffered from severe abdominal pain moments before the match, even crying with suffering. Even so, he hit the road and got the best classification ever for Portugal, even though he was unable to come close to his personal (and national) record, 1h27m23s, which would have earned him Gold in the race held last Friday. fair.
At the reception scheduled for today, in Pechão, the presence of the population of Pechão (and beyond) is expected in force, with the presence of representatives from various entities, namely the Mayor of Olhão António Miguel Pina and elements of the Portuguese Athletics Federation.
The mayor from Olhano, however, has already come to the public to show his «satisfaction and pride for the result achieved by Ana Cabecinha, a tireless fighter who brought to our county the brand of second best European competition in the 20 kilometers march at the Olympic Games in Rio of January".

The Chamber of Olhão was one of the entities that sponsored Ana Cabecinha's participation in the JO, having allocated a financial support of 7500 euros for the athlete's preparation. This amount contributed “to the realization of internships at altitude (in Spain) and to the participation in international competitions (Challenge Internacional de Marche of the IAAF – International Association of Athletics Federations)”.
"The athlete's coach Paulo Murta, an employee of the Municipality of Olhão, was also released from the service to be able to support the athlete in the best way possible in her preparation", added the municipality of Olhão.
