Wine Tasting 2016The Fortaleza de Santa Catarina, in Portimão, receives, between 22 and 24 July, the Portimão Wine Tasting. The initiative aims to encourage the population to discover the wines produced in the municipality.

The event is organized by the Associação Turismo de Portimão and by the council's three wine producers: Herdade dos Pimentéis, Quinta do Morgado da Torre and Quinta da Penina.

According to the promoters, Portimão Wine Tasting «promises three days of good experiences, in a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere, with emphasis on tasting local harvests and the exhibition and tasting of regional products».

«We believe that it is essential to give visibility to the wines produced in Portimão, to the gastronomy and rurality of the wine-producing region of Portimão. After all, this is not a land of sun and sea. Here, good wines are also made, some already awarded, although little known to many. Precisely for this reason we decided to organize this initiative, which already has its 3rd edition», says the organization.

During the three days, Portimão Wine Tasting takes place between 19pm and midnight and admission is free.

The tasting glass can be purchased for 1,5 euros and each tasting costs between 1,50 euros (harvest wine) and 2 euros (reservation wine).

«From lighter reds, to fresh whites, passing through more fruity Rosés, the invitation is for people to come to taste, taste and take home quality wines, in a relaxed atmosphere, where they can chat, socialize and even dance», adds the organization.

But Portimão Wine Tasting is not just wine, as street food will also be present, with Lambreta Maria do Mar, Em Pão Torrado and Porco no Espeto.

The initiative has the support of the Municipality of Portimão, APS – Administration of the Ports of Sines and the Algarve Tourism Region.
