New adapted Irene Rolo vanThe Irene Rolo Foundation received a new 9-seater van with a lifting platform for wheelchairs, a gift from the Rotary Club Villeneuve Loubet Baie des Anges (Nice region, southern France).

The vehicle was received this Friday, at a ceremony in which both the French Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Tavira were recognized and presented with medals and works from the institution's users, who also made their contribution to help pay for the heavy vehicles. tax charges associated with the vehicle, namely "part of customs charges of more than 8 thousand euros".

The Algarve Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS) has already benefited from a similar offer for about a year and, on both occasions, it was «obliged to pay a considerable amount in taxes (green tax, VAT and customs fees)» .

«The amount paid in taxes associated with the two vans received amounts to 30 thousand euros. This situation seriously penalizes solidarity institutions that do not have alternatives for transporting people in wheelchairs. For this, already exposed to the Government, the Foundation has not received any response so far», he explained.

Taxes aside, the new van is very welcome, as it "will meet the Foundation's needs, with regard to the travel of its users, contributing to a quality service for people with disabilities."
