Secretary of State for Internal Administration Jorge Gomes revealed last week, at the signing of the protocol for the creation of the Regional Road Safety Plan, that «we are in negotiations with France in order to have French police, next summer, in the components of foot patrols» in the Algarve.

SE Internal Administration Jorge GomesIn the case of the British police, official contact has not yet been made, but it will take place later this year. “In September/October we are going to have a big event in the area of ​​the security forces, in which the British police will participate, and I want to see if I am encouraged and can also approach the English”, he said.

For the ruler, “England is a heavyweight. Regarding the English, we have the notion that they are the ones who make the most disrespect, but it's not in that sense, it's so that those who cause disrespect realize that their police are here».

According to Jorge Gomes, “a foreign citizen who is here feels the same comfort that we would feel if we went to a foreign country and there were a PSP agent, or a GNR military. We immediately feel more protected».

Before the arrival of the English and French “reinforcements”, the partnership with the Spanish Guardia Civil, which, as part of the “Algarve Destino Seguro” program, since 2013, has had agents on patrols in the region during the summer season.
