EMYA 2017New museums in Portugal and throughout Europe, that is, those that opened in the last three years, can still apply, until the 24th of June, for the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA 2017, European Museum of the Year) .

The delivery of the EMYA 2017 awards will take place next year in Paris, with a wide schedule from 21st to 24th June.

The registration form, regulations and frequently asked questions can be downloaded from the European Museum Forum website by clicking here.

This, which is the most important museological prize in Europe, ends up having a very deep connection with the Algarve, since José Gameiro, scientific director of the Portimão Museum, has been, since March of last year, the President of the international jury of the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA-European Museum of the Year Award) and of the Council of Europe Museum Award (CoE).

Gameiro was chosen by the European Museum Forum (EMF – European Forum of Museums) for this important task, largely due to the international awards that the Museum of Portimão, under his direction, obtained.

In 2010, two years after it opened, the Portimão Museum received the Museum of the Year award from the Council of Europe, being the second national equipment to receive the distinction, in more than 30 years of the history of this award. The following year, it was the turn of the Algarve structure to be awarded the “Mundo do Trabalho” prize awarded in Dortmund, by the German institution DASA.

The delivery of the EMYA 2017 awards will take place next year in Paris, with a wide schedule from 21st to 24th June. They will, in fact, be the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of this European Museum of the Year Award.

Therefore, the organization announces, the event, which every year highlights the new challenges and the quality of European museums, will take place at the Louvre Museum, the Pompidou Center, the Orsay Museum and even the Louvre School.

This year, the European Museum of the Year was the Polin-Museum of the History of Polish Jews, in the Warsaw Ghetto. But in 2016, Poland won the two top museology awards on the Old Continent, as the European Solidarity Center in Gdansk was awarded the Council of Europe Museum Prize.
