FAP helicopterA 59-year-old Spanish crew member, who was aboard the Spanish-flagged cargo ship «Brens», sailing 45 miles south of Cabo de Sagres, was rescued this morning by an EH-101 helicopter. of the Portuguese Air Force (FAP).

​The operation was coordinated by the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Center (MRCC Lisbon), in conjunction with the INEM – Guidance Center for Urgent Patients at Sea (CODU-Mar) and the FAP.

The crew member was diagnosed as having a myocardial infarction, so CODU-Mar assessed the medical evacuation as urgent. After this information, the MRCC Lisboa requested the activation of an air vehicle to carry out the rescue.

The patient was transported by helicopter to the airport of Faro, where he landed at 04:55 am, and from there he was taken by the INEM Medical team to the Hospital de Faro, in a stable situation.
