The young accordionists from Mito Algarvio – Association of Accordionists of the Algarve won six first prizes, two second prizes and two third prizes, in the 21st TNational roféu and 2nd International Accordion Competition, which took place from the 13th to the 15th of May, in the city of Alcobaça.

This competition, part of the 2nd International Accordion Week, is considered the most important competition in the country in this musical area, and young people from Portugal, Russia and Spain participated in it.

Of the approximately 40 participants in the prov,a distributed by the various categories, eight of them are from the Algarve, students of Professor João Pereira, from Castro Marim, and Professor Nelson Conceição, from Bordeira (Santa Bárbara de Nexe – Faro).

Hugo Madeira, 8 years old, born in Altura, Castro Marim, won 1st place in the National Accordion Trophy and in the International Accordion Competition, in the Beginner category, while Miguel Coelho, from Messines, was in the same category. 2nd place in the National Trophy and 3rd place in the International Competition.

In the Duo A category, the duo made up of 12-year-old Carina Duarte, from Quarteira, and 12-year-old Hugo Afonso, from Almancil, also won first place, both in the National Trophy and in the International Competition.

The same feat was achieved in the Duo B category, by Pedro Palma, aged 15, from Loulé, and Tiago Silva, aged 17, from Santa Bárbara de Nexe.

In the Children's category, Carina Duarte was in 4th place, both in the National Trophy and in the International Competition, and the same result was obtained by Hugo Afonso.

João Palma, 15 years old, from Loulé, in the Youth Varieté category, won 2nd place in the National Trophy and 3rd in the International Competition.

Mariana Coelho, 13, from Olhos d'Água, Albufeira, in the Free Soloist B category, won 4th position in both trophies.

The jury for these competitions, organized by ASACORD (Accordion Association of Portugal), was composed of representatives from France, Italy, Bosnia, Spain, Portugal, Russia and China.
