The Municipality of Loulé, together with the Almargem Association, promotes, on the next weekend of the 4th and 5th of June, the event “Cadoiço em Festa”, as part of the World Environment Day celebrations. The festival is intended to «make known and sensitize the population to the importance of this stream, which is part of the natural heritage of the city of Loulé».
This two-day program of intense environmental activities starts on Saturday, June 4th, with the debate “The potential of Ribeira do Cadoiço”, at the Municipal Library of Loulé, from 17:00 to 19:30.
Also on the 4th, the organization promotes a night activity, with an outing to observe nocturnal animals along the Ribeira, from 21 pm to 00 pm. Participants must bring a flashlight.
On Sunday, 5th, the day is marked by various nature activities: bird observation and identification tour, flora identification tour, geological trail “Cadoiço much more than a stream”, environmental walking trail, from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm , monitoring of ecological water quality and bird ringing, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Activities for children are also planned – “Bicharada hunting” (Come and discover the invertebrates that live on the banks of the Cadoiço), from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, and “Let's go fly a kite” (Come and build an ECOPapagaio), from 11:00 am to 13:00 pm .
For parents and children, the organization proposes the “Cadoiço do Cadoiço”, between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, and “O Canto do Cadoiço” – Interpretative tour of the sounds of nature and painting, from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm.

The event has the partnership of several entities: Portuguese Environment Agency, Águas do Algarve, Loulé and Pena Environmental Center, Geo Walks & Talks and the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Algarve.
In the last decade, the Municipality of Loulé has been carrying out requalification works in the Cadoiço area, and, according to the municipality, there is «a project to create an Urban and Agricultural Park on the site, with the aim of turning the space into an area of leisure and recreation to be enjoyed by all».
