Portimão Historic CenterThe «Urban Sketchers Algarve» drawing meeting will liven up the historic center of Portimão on the 10th of April. The morning will be dedicated to moments of social drawing and architectural design, and the afternoon to sharing these drawings in the city's riverside area.

The initiative is the result of a partnership between the Câmara de Portimão and Urban Sketchers Algarve and will join sketchers, illustrators, artists or simple lovers of drawing, who bring with them «drawing material, a sharp eye and a desire to draw», according to the Portimonense autarchy.

The event begins with a reception at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão, at 10:00 am, followed by a tour of the historic centre. Afterwards, participants' imaginations will be given wings.

Os Urban Sketchers Algarve they are a collective of authors who draw the Algarve region in graphic diaries and meet occasionally to draw.

“In Portimão, this initiative is part of the municipality's Urban Regeneration objectives, namely to maintain the city's memory, by enabling the involvement and participation of the community in the urban rehabilitation process”, according to the local Council.

This initiative is part of the International Day of Monuments and Sites, which is commemorated on April 18th.

 

Urban Sketchers Manifesto:

3. Our drawings are a record of time and place.

5. We use any type of technique and value each individual style.

8. We show the world, one drawing at a time.
