Church_Santiago_cmtWithin the scope of the cycle “Walks in the history of Tavira” the initiative “The Igreja Matriz de Santiago” will be held on April 16, at 10:30 am, under the guidance of the art historian, Daniel Santana.

According to Câmara de Tavira, “in focus is a temple, whose history is associated with the Islamic past. This was remodeled, after the reconquest, into a church with Gothic features under the authority of the Bishop of Silves. Today, it has austere forms, the result of the reconstruction that took place after the earthquake of 1755. The Church of Santiago still preserves an interesting artistic collection, made up, in part, of works from other churches in Tavira».

“Walks in the History of Tavira” aims to “disclose the city's past, the urban landscape, the monuments and historical characters, as well as raise awareness of the need to protect and enhance the heritage heritage”, explains the municipality.

Registration is free and mandatory and is intended for the general public (maximum number of 40 participants).

Interested parties should fill in the registration form and send it to the Educational Service of the Municipal Museum of Tavira, via e-mail [email protected] or deliver it to the reception of the Municipal Museum of Tavira – Palácio da Galeria (Tuesday- Monday to Saturday, 09:00 am to 16:30 pm).
