ramos_rosa poetry awardThe poet Luís Quintais, for his work “O Vidro”, was awarded the XNUMXth edition of the António Ramos Rosa National Poetry Prize, has just announced the Municipality of Faro.

The award jury, consisting of António Carlos Cortez, poet and literary critic, Gastão Cruz, poet, essayist and literary critic, and Pedro Ferré, vice-rector of the University of Algarve and professor at FCHS-UAlg, considered that, «from the extreme rigor of his writing, “O Vidro” is a volume and poems that undoubtedly deserves to be distinguished with the António Ramos Rosa poetry prize, one of the voices that Quintais never ceases to honor by producing a living, dense and enduring work to the deflation of imaginative power in our age of tired officials».

For the jury, Luís Quintais has built, since 1995, «one of the most solid paths in recent Portuguese poetry, proposing to us a language of poetry as a vestige of a voice that analyses, dismantles and interprets the mystery of a different world that, frequently, it is an obscure, chaotic, trapped universe… Quintais' work evades any easy understanding, it is neither descriptive nor hermetically lyrical, but rather proposes a transfigured reading of the world from which it starts and to which it always returns».

The Prize, worth 5000 euros, is promoted by the Municipality of Faro and is highly sponsored by the Millennium BCP Foundation and supported by Delta Cafés, ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, Turismo de Portugal, Hotel Faro, Tertúlia Algarvia and Jornal de Letras, Artes e Ideias.

It will be delivered on April 23, at 17 pm, in a public session to be held at the Municipal Library of Faro Antonio Ramos Rosa.

Luís Quintais thus joins Fernando Echeverria, Fernando Guimarães, Nuno Júdice and João Rui de Sousa, winners of the previous four editions of this Award.
