This Sunday, the city of Loulé once again received thousands of people for what is the largest religious event in the south of the country: The Feast of the Sovereign Mother.

The streets are adorned with quilts and, from time to time, you can hear the fireworks that sing in the city, increasing in frequency as Nossa Senhora da Piedade approaches its Sanctuary, from which it left on Easter Sunday, in headed to the Church of San Francisco, in the center of the city, and where he stayed for two weeks.

"Long live the Sovereign Mother!", Long live the Men of Andor!", Long live Our Lady of Mercy!", "Long live our patroness!" ages as the procession roams the city streets.

At the foot of the hill where the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Piedade is built, before the final ascent, the faithful – and not only – intertwine their arms so that no one is left behind in the rapid ascent to the top.

The Men of Andor, “pushed” by the population's cheers of encouragement, climb, almost at a running pace, up the steep slope, carrying the heavy image of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, following the rhythm of the music band that accompanies the procession.
