The two crosses will be placed on the façade of the Chamber, on April 29, according to the promise that the mayor José Amarelinho made to activists.

The group also made a point of presenting to the mayor of the municipality and also the vice-president of AMAL (Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve) its opinion on the eventuality of being used fracking (hydraulic fracturing), as well as on the activities of the Portfuel consortium, to which the Portuguese State has granted the concession for the prospecting and possible exploration of two blocks in the Algarve region, called “Aljezur” and “Tavira”.

At the meeting with the activists, José Amarelinho, who even posed for the photograph with the crosses and the activists, also spoke about the monitoring that the Aljezurense municipality is developing, together with the GNR's SEPNA, of the holes that have been being made in various parts of the county (and not only), theoretically to find water, but that activists suspect that they are already activities of prospecting for hydrocarbons. These holes are being drilled by the company Domus Verdes Empreendimentos Imobiliários, which subcontracted the company Fonseca Furos to carry them out in the field.

José Amarelinho, elected by the PS, is the vice-president of AMAL, which, on March 15, deliberated, unanimously, proceed to court to halt the prospecting and exploration of oil and natural gas in the Algarve region.

The Aljezurense mayor has been, in fact, one of the most vigorous in contesting the prospecting of hydrocarbons, offshore (at sea) and Onshore (on land) in the Algarve.
