Atlas of the Heritage of the AlgarveThe Atlas of Heritage Classified and in the process of classification in the Algarve has just been updated, announced the Regional Directorate of Culture. The Algarve is even the first region in the country with all municipalities updated.

The task of georeferencing immovable cultural property was carried out in cooperation between the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and had the collaboration of the Municipal Councils, with whom protocols were signed.

From now on, guarantees DRCultAlg, «the updating will be constant, resulting from the legal evolution of the real estate – classification or classification routes».

The review of the georeferenced cartography of all the Algarve's immovable cultural assets that have legal protection is thus concluded, with identification and verification of the limits of classified properties and their respective protection zones.

This verification was also accompanied by a review of many of the descriptive contents of each property in the respective identification form available on the internet.

"The classified properties cannot be altered without the opinion (which is binding) of the tutelage entity, and the licensing of prior works and communications being subject to restrictions in the respective protection zones, the great interest in democratizing citizen access is understandable. to this information, in what we consider to be good practice in heritage management and dissemination of the region's cultural assets», stresses DRCultAlg.

The Atlas can be easily accessed through the website of the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage, clicking here, where you can view and search the heritage and protection zones directly on the map or through the location or address, or by selecting some reference themes.

The Algarve is thus the first Portuguese region to provide geo-referenced information on the internet about all its cultural assets classified or in the process of classification.
