«30 years in the history of Monchique» is the title of the photographic exhibition that the Cultural Dynamization Group «O Monchiqueiro» promotes as part of the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the Jornal de Monchique.
The exhibition, which will be on display at Galeria de Santo António until April 8, is open to the public every day between 11:00 and 13:00 and from 15:00 to 16:30.
This initiative intends, through six dozen photographs and some objects, to show the contribution of Jornal de Monchique to local history.
It is about 30 subjects, some distributed in several themes and illustrated by one or more photographs, which recall moments, people and important events that, in some way, changed the way of life of Monchiquenses.
The exhibition ranges from the catastrophes that devastated the municipality, such as fires and floods, to the works that created new spaces or improved the conditions of others, in which themes such as the construction of the current Manuel do Nascimento Basic School or the Center are represented. Escolar de São Pedro, the Alferce-São Marcos road, the Largo dos Chorões widening project or the São Sebastião Park, among many others.
There is also no lack of visits from various political entities, official events, traditions and religious festivities that personify the local identity, annual fairs that promote the region's traditional products and concerns with the historical and cultural heritage of this locality.
“There are 390 editions of a future written in the past that has already become the present”, stresses “O Monchiqueiro”, the association that owns the Jornal de Monchique.
The event has the support of the Municipality of Monchique and the Parish Council of Monchique.
