Cerro Cabeça 2013 2 jpgAt Cerro da Cabeça, in Moncarapacho, the Monday after Easter is a day to eat. This year, families and friends will gather again for a picnic, which will also have the right to a ball at 15 pm, to fulfill a tradition that, according to the Union of Parishes of Moncarapacho and Fuseta, is over 00 years old.

The municipality explains that “this custom began in the late forties of the last century and has become one of the most popular festivals in the eastern Algarve. In Faro, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira, excursions were organized with the collaboration of employers who dismissed their workers in order to participate in the party».

At this party, «under a tree and around a table, the folar was the most desired delicacy of the picnic, where the first snails were also tasted. The climb to the viewpoint, purpose-built for the party a few years later, was also mandatory, and in the afternoon there was an open-air ballet to culminate an unforgettable day of celebration, which was eagerly awaited, year after year," adds União of Parishes.

«At a time when traditions are no longer so intensely lived», this picnic is, for the organization, «a very rich album of memories of the old days».

In recent years, the event has had the support of the Union of Parishes of Moncarapacho and Fuseta, namely in the organization of the ball, and of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Moncarapacho, owner of the land.
