March YoungThe opening party of the 18th edition of Março Jovem, in Portimão, is scheduled for the 4th, at 22 pm, at Katedral Disco, in Praia da Rocha, but the program starts today, the 00st, with initiatives promoted by the Municipal Center of Civil Protection under the International Civil Protection Day.

The party will feature a very eclectic group of artists, including Pedro Pinto – Reflect, Giletes d' Aço, ACLIVE group, tunas Ismat, Tunabebes and Rolha, Combo de Jazz, Escola de Dança de Salão do Boa Esperança, the Municipal Classes of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, and several DJs.

It will be the kick-off for 31 days filled with a lot of music, dance, theater, poetry, sports, workshops, exhibitions and some news, in the year in which “March Young” turns 18.

In music, from the 18th to the 22nd, the V International Festival of Percussion, organized by the Academy of Music of Lagos – Conservatory of Music of Portimão Joly Braga Santos, stands out. Bar Marginália proposes a set of nine concerts on the 5th – Tribute to Sepultura, 19th – Tribute The Offspring, 25th – Daniel Kemish Band, 26th – Urge and every Thursday – The Marathons Rock Covers.

In the dance space, the choreographic project by Maurícia Neves takes to the stage of the Municipal Theater on the 11th and 12th, at 21 pm, with the show “We Will Use Smoke Machines”.

On the 26th, from 16 pm, in the Auditorium of the Portimão Museum, it's time to “Dançar sem Parar”, with a show that includes various types of dance and is organized by the Center for Support to the Emigrant Population of the East and Academia Dança Mais.

The theater takes place on the 5th, with two sessions of the play “Tales from the Sea: The Adventure of Fossegrim”, at 10:30 am and 16:00 pm, aimed at children aged three to five.

Also with two sessions, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 15:00 pm to 17:00 pm, aimed at children from 3 years old, on the 12th, the Theater Workshops for Parents and Children are held at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library. This initiative requires registration, which must be made through the email [email protected].

Contramaré – Associação Cultural de Portimão, headquartered at Sociedade Vencedora Portimonense, calls poetry to its proposals and challenges young people to participate in Quinta dos Poetas, do Clubbing or try LAB – Creative Laboratory, a new space for artistic creation multidisciplinary in the city center where they can create an experimental meeting point, meet artists and lovers of various forms of art, whether music or cinema, but also arts and crafts, painting, photography or video.

In the field of sports, the Sports Area of ​​Praia da Rocha will host on the 5th and 6th, from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm, the Regional Surf Circuit Stage 2016, organized by the Marina de Portimão Yacht Club and on the 8th, the Woman Surfing Day, promoted by Portimão Surf Clube, with the offer of surf lessons, between 10:00 and 12:00. This activity has limited places and prior registration at the Club's headquarters (Praia da Rocha Sports Area) or through [email protected].

In the context of sport, there is also on the 12th, from 11:00 am, the Pedestrian Raid, starting at the old auction, organized by the Associação Juvenil O Infante, the Inter-School Table Tennis Tournament, on the 16th, between 14:00 at 20:00 pm, in the polyvalent room of the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Secondary School, and Yoga classes, on the 19th, at 10:30 am, and on the 26th, at 10:00 am, at Villa Prana – Guestouse & Therapies.

At the end of the month, the highlight is on the 26th, from 14 pm to 00 pm, when the Algarve Regional Bmx Race Cup takes place at Parque da Juventude, organized by the Clube Bicross de Portimão with the support of the Humanitarian Association of Portimão Voluntary Firefighters.

The training aspect is once again a strong focus of March Young, which, on the 4th, from 10:00 am to 19:00 pm, presents the Educational and Sports Offering Fair, organized by Escola Profissional Gil Eanes.

Various activities will take place throughout the day, among which we highlight at 12:30 pm the Show cooking “Healthy food”, guided by the Executive Chef of the Holiday Inn Nuno Martins, an exhibition of the students of the Technical Photography Course, which will be on display until 31st of March and a raffle of 3 Digital Photography Workshops promoted by the company Robson Studios.

Also in the training area, the program offers a diverse range of open classes, lectures and workshops on skills promotion, motivation, porch gardens, woodcuts, among others.

On the 16th, as usual, there will be Beta Talk in Portimão, this time “Especial Jovem” and taking place at 19 pm, at Escola Secundária Poeta António Aleixo.

There will also be two exhibitions in evidence, one inaugurated today, the 1st, the photography exhibition “Geografias de Portimão”, guided by the Group of Geography Teachers, which will be open until March 18, from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am at 17 pm, at the Alvor Parish Council.

The other opens on the 12th, at 17 pm. This is “Mar de Esperança”, an exhibition of the report that João Porfírio, a 00-year-old photojournalist from Portimo, carried out along the main borders of the countries where refugees pass through. This exhibition will be on display at the Museu de Portimão, until March 21th.

Note also for the live electronic quiz – Dr. Why Portugal – SuperBockology Tour, to be held on March 11, at 22 pm, at the Old Auction in Portimão's Riparian Zone, organized by the Academic Association of UAlg, in collaboration with UAlg ISMAT Student Association.

The Miss and Mister competitions will once again fill Portimão Arena, on the 12th, with the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Secondary School, and on the 19th, with the Poeta António Aleixo Secondary School, both at 21 pm.

As in the previous year, during the month of March, young people can use the Swimming Pools of Portimão, the Sports Complexes of Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande for free and, from 12 to 23, visit the Museum.

In addition to the set of activities and events aimed at the general public, the Young March program also includes a Special Schools Program, which includes information/awareness actions about nutrition and health, primary prevention of addictive behaviors, internet safety, sexuality, dating violence, bullying, parental responsibility, among other topics that will be discussed exclusively at the Schools.

And if the Young March ends on the 31st of March, the program for the youth extends into April with several events, among which the XVI Enportunas, on the 2nd, and the International Conference on “Youth Policies at the Local and regional: development of territories and participation of young people in decision-making”, from 12 to 15, at the Museum of Portimão, organized by the Education, Cooperation and Development Cooperative, among other initiatives.

A reflection of the dynamics of local youth and the association's youth movement in the municipality, Março Jovem counts on the commitment of around fifty entities, including schools, clubs, associations and companies, in an organization of the Municipality of Portimão.
