The 17th Race March and the 2nd Trail of the Ria Formosa will take place this Sunday (20th), at the International Motorcycle Concentration (Vale das Almas), in Faro, at 10:00 am. As registration for the Race March ends tomorrow.
The Marcha Corrida (leisure) route is 7 or 10 km long, and the Trail (competition) route is 20 km.
This year, the event has some news for participants who want to not only practice sports, but also enjoy some leisure time with their families.
Therefore, the Chamber of Faro, with the collaboration of more than two dozen associative and business council entities, prepared a space for rest, picnic (streetfood, coffee, regional products) and multi-sports.
"This is intended to be a moment of fraternization between all participants, but more than that, a moment that aims to trigger awareness for the practice of physical activity and sport", says the Chamber of Faro.
The municipality also provides free transport to Vale das Almas, between 8:00 am and 9:30 am, departing from Teatro das Figuras.
The Marcha Corrida da Ria Formosa is a project that, according to the municipality of Faro, intends to «make the citizen “more active” and generalize the practice of sports, thus contributing to the improvement of their quality of life».
The 2nd edition of the Ria Formosa Trail «comes from the will of the participants of previous editions, who prefer the running aspect».
The route coincides with Marcha in the first kilometers and, from there, it will travel through the Ludo area, along the Ribeira de São Lourenço and the woods of Gambelas, returning again to Vale das Almas.
«We prepared a varied and demanding route in these 20 km with a great variety of surfaces (dirt roads, a bit of road, and dirt and sand tracks), but with few slopes», refers the organization of the race, which counts 139 entries.
At the end of the Trail event, a trophy will be offered to the top 3 classified (women and men).
The event also counts on the presence of the National Republican Guard of Faro (GNR) which, through the Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA), will mark the “World Day of Trees and Forests”.
The GNR, which will mark the date with the planting of a tree, stresses the need "to convey a message to raise awareness of the importance of the forest and the risks associated with it", says the Territorial Command
Last year, this event registered more than 4000 participants, demonstrating that «year after year, the status of the best march on the calendar, either for the beauty of the place where the activity takes place, or for the careful organization of the event», concludes the municipality.
