The first phase of the commemorations of the 140th anniversary of the birth of Júlio Dantas "exceeded all expectations", in terms of the population's adhesion, announced the City of Lagos. The program devised by the municipality will last until the end of the year, but, in a first assessment, the influx of the public stands out, which was «very significant».
The first moment of commemoration of the illustrious lacobrigense's birthday is taking place throughout the month of March and will also feature another cinema session, next Wednesday. Three other phases follow, taking place in April, May and November.
During the month of March, there were three sessions of Fado Vadio, the presentation of the book “Dantas ea Severa”, by the specialist in sociology and gender studies, Elsa Vieira, and a Film Cycle dedicated to the female universe and the various idealizations of Women, called “Femina: the Severa and the Others” (Cinema on Wednesdays at the Municipal Library).
The next moments include exhibition openings (April and May), a fashion show (May) and a theater festival (November).
In all activities that have been programmed, there is a core objective: «to publicize the author and his work, contextualizing them in their historical-cultural and political time, so that, when read, their writing is understood in light of the time and of his personal aesthetic choices, and his intellectual and institutional trajectory can be understood stripped of the prejudiced and banalizing armor with which he starts to be seen from the circulation of the pamphlet “Manifesto Anti-Dantas”».
