Podio_CollectiveThe Kayak Clube Castores do Arade (KCCA), from Lagoa, started in the best way the National Championship of Canoeing at Sea, which had its first regatta, this Saturday, in Sesimbra. The Algarve team won four podiums per category and reached the second collective position, in a circuit of 16 kilometers, starting and finishing at Sesimbra beach.

Athletes Nuno Silva and Ana Bebiano won their categories, in K1-Mar and SS-1 Vet-A – single-seater surfski –, respectively.

According to the KCCA, «Nuno Silva won with great authority, with an advantage of 6 minutes and 54 seconds over the runner-up and Ana Bebiano overcame the runner-up, by 54 seconds».

The club also highlights the participation of the duo Iago Bebiano and Gonçalo Bento, ranked second in SS-2 Juniors – bi-seat surfski –, and Beatriz Reis, ranked second in SS-1 Juniors Female.

Belén Acuña, current National Women's Vet-A Champion, chose to compete this year in the Seniors category, finishing in 6th position.

In the collective classification, KCCA reached the 2nd place, just 7 points behind the winning club, Alhandra Sporting Clube, and with a 223 point advantage over Clube do Mar Costa do Sol, in second place.

The remaining KCCA athletes reached the following positions: Dimas Rey was ranked 7th in the SS-1 Juniors male category, António Luís was 8th in SS-1 Vet-A and Jorge Filipe and Orlando Silva were both ranked 9th in their categories, SS- 1 Senior Vet-A and SS-1.

The 2016 Sea Canoeing National Championship consists of 6 regattas, which are disputed all over the country, from March to October. The next stage is on the 9th of April in Lagoa, then passing through Setúbal, in May, Peniche, in June, Esposende, in August, and ends in October in Funchal.

The Lagoa stage has a route of 14 kilometers, from Praia Grande de Ferragudo to Senhora da Rocha, and is jointly organized by the Municipality of Lagoa and KCCA.
