Algarve Wind OrchestraThe symphony «Mare Nostrum», composed by Jorge Salgueiro, inspired by the epic of the Portuguese Discoveries, will be presented on the 6th of March, at 18 pm, at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro.

The concert is promoted by the Academy of Music of Lagos, with the support of various regional entities, and will be performed by the Orquestra de Sopros do Algarve (OSA), directed by conductor João Rocha. The show features the special participation of soprano Margarida Marreiros.

This initiative will be included in the celebrations of the International Water Day and makes known the Symphony No. 2, Mare Nostrum, Opus 124, by Jorge Salgueiro, who «draws inspiration from the epic of the Portuguese navigators of 1500, following the Portuguese symphonic tradition started in the symphonies of Luís de Freitas Branco and continued by Joly Braga Santos, in a symphonic narrative with 4 movements».

«In order to remember important names of the Portuguese epic of 1500, the author dedicated each movement to less evoked, but no less important, personalities of this fantastic human and scientific experience», according to the Academy of Music of Lagos.

The cultural structure of lacobrigense has the support of Águas do Algarve – Águas de Portugal Group, of the Municipality of Faro and the Municipal Theater of Faro, in this first performance of the piece.
