The House of Islamic and Mediterranean Culture of Silves will host, on February 20th, at 16 pm, the conference “The Languages in the Discoveries”. The guest speaker for the initiative is Carlos Castilho Pais, professor at the Humanity Department at Universidade Aberta.
The “tongues” were the first interpreter-translators at the time of the Discoveries, whose function was to establish contact with native peoples.
The action is promoted by the Center for Luso-Arab Studies of Silves (CELAS) and has the support of the Municipality of Silves, Association for Studies and Defense of the Historical-Cultural Heritage of the Municipality of Silves, Local Learning Center (CLA) of Silves and Center for Research in Arts and Communication (CIAC-UAb Center).
