Silves CastleIn 2015, 232090 visitors visited Castelo de Silves, following the trend of growth in demand registered in recent years.

This number represents an increase in the order of 27318 entries (13,3%), «translating clearly into an important contribution to the development of the local economy», announced the City Council of Silves, which manages that national monument.

The Municipal Museum of Archeology also suffered the same trend, being visited by 29047 people, a number that, compared to 2014, represents an increase of 21,8% visitors.

The city of Silves has consolidated its position as a reference cultural destination in the Algarve region, including in its offer five National Monuments: Cruz de Portugal, Walls and Porta da Almedina, Arab well-cistern, Cathedral and Castle, this being the last one of the most visited monuments in the region.

The exhibition “No Caminho do Lince Ibérico” is currently on display in the Castle, resulting from a partnership between the Municipality of Silves and the Institute for Nature and Forest Conservation, and which aims to present a historical perspective of the occurrence of this animal in the Iberian Peninsula, its recent disappearance from Portuguese territory, the efforts that have been made to reintroduce it into a natural environment and other important details about this species.

In addition to the exhibition, the Castle of Silves also offers a cafeteria service and, at the castle entrance, an audio-guide service, which provides a complete and interesting tour of the monument.

Thus, the Municipality of Silves invites those who have not yet visited any of these National Monuments to do so and learn a little more about the history of this region, simply by purchasing a joint ticket that allows them to visit the Castle of Silves and the Municipal Museum of Archeology for a lower price.

The Castle of Silves and the Municipal Museum of Archeology are open every day (except Christmas Day and New Year's Day).
