Julio Dantas CelebrationsThe 140 Years of the Birth of Júlio Dantas are the motto for a vast and diversified program that the Municipality of Lagos will develop throughout the year on this theme. The initiative, which includes fado sessions, exhibitions, cinema, a fashion show and a theater festival, has the partnership of students from Escola Secundária Júlio Dantas.

The program aims to promote the greatest work of Júlio Dantas - his dramaturgical production - and address the figure of the literati and the intellectual in an engaging and provocative way, parallel to the cultural and mental environment of the late XNUMXth century and the early decades of the XNUMXth century, in which he produced his most original, most popular and most controversial work.

Throughout the entire programme, which is divided into four key moments (March, April, May and November), «it will always be possible to identify this core objective present in all activities – to disseminate the author and his work, contextualizing them in the his historical-cultural and political time, so that, when read, his writing is understood in the light of the time and his personal aesthetic choices, and his intellectual and institutional path can be understood, stripped of the prejudiced and banalizing armor with which it starts to be seen from the circulation of the “Anti-Dantas Manifesto” pamphlet», explains the City Council of Lagos.

The event “It was a felt and warm voice – Fado Vadio in Homage to Severa and Júlio Dantas” marks, in March, the start of the Commemorations of the 140 Years of the Birth of Júlio Dantas, together with the launch of the book “Dantas ea Severa ”, by specialist in sociology and gender study Elsa Vieira, taking place on March 8th – International Women's Day, at the Municipal Library, from 21 pm.
There will also be a Film Cycle dedicated to the female universe and to the various ideals of Women, called “Femina: a Severa e as Outros” (Cinema on Wednesdays at the Municipal Library, 21 pm).

The program will also feature other moments throughout the year, namely with the opening of exhibitions (April and May), a fashion show (May) and a theater festival (November).
