doctorsThe Government confirmed that there has been a strong decrease in specialist doctors in hospitals in the Algarve, in the last four years, and that it is seeking to remedy these failures by resorting to «the hiring of professionals under an employment contract, service provision contract and by means of recourse. to the mobility figures provided for in the law».

The Ministry of Health responded to a question presented by PCP deputies about "the glaring lack of doctors at the Algarve Hospital Center (CHA)", made in order to understand what was being done to counteract the situation. The Communist Parliamentary Group also asked for data on entries and exits of specialists, since 2011, and the total number of doctors currently working in the Algarve's hospitals, which were provided by the Government.

The figures show that there are currently 87 fewer specialists working at the CHA than there were in 2011. According to the Government (based on a report from the Algarve hospital center at the end of 2015), there were 156 doctors leaving and only 69 entries in four years. The Ministry of Health adds that the three hospitals had, at the end of 2015, 409 clinicians.

Of the 156 doctors who no longer belong to the hospital's staff, only 38 retired, with the remaining 118 leaving "for other reasons".

In the question they had made to the Government, the communist deputies, including the parliamentarian elected by the Algarve Paulo Sá, had already highlighted a drop in the provision of health services, seen since the merger of the three Algarve hospitals.

«The number of outpatients at the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve (hospitals of Faro and Portimão) decreased from 328.308 in 2011 to 299.987 in 2014. The average waiting times for these appointments are unacceptable, reaching hundreds of days in some specialties (at Hospital de Faro, according to data provided by the Algarve's ARS in March 2015: 789 days in Ophthalmology, 699 days in Urology, 663 days in Neurosurgery, 627 days in Orthopedics and 428 days in Rheumatology)», described the PCP, in the question asked to guardianship.
