In addition to the “artists” of the ball, the most renowned referees of today will also be present in this competition.

The teams from Portugal, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Iceland and Russia, who have already participated in previous editions of this tournament, are joined by two new teams: Belgium and New Zealand.

The 2016 edition of the Algarve Cup will feature an always emblematic Portugal-Brazil, a game to be played on March 4, at the VRSA Sports Complex. Before that, Portugal will face Russia, in the opening game of the tournament, on March 2, at 18 pm, at the Estádio Municipal de Albufeira. On 7 March, the Portuguese team returns to the same stadium, to face New Zealand (15 hours).

On the 9th of March, the Portuguese athletes will compete in the last game, to find out where they are in the general classification. The date and time of all games can be consulted online.

«The Algarve Cup competition is one of the most prestigious events in international women's football and is organized by the Portuguese Football Federation, the Algarve Football Association and FIFA, together with the Town Halls of Vila Real de Santo António, Albufeira, Lagoa and Lagos,” recalled the Chamber of VRSA, in a press release.

The tournament is used by many teams «to prepare the respective sporting seasons, in a tournament in which competitiveness is internationally recognized». According to the municipality of Vilareal, "this is the biggest competition in the world after the major official tournaments of the sport (World and European Championships and Olympic Games)".

«The choice of Vila Real de Santo António for this competition is a sign of the recognition of the quality and work of promoting the VRSA Sports Complex, a structure that has attracted dozens of events of media interest. It should be recalled that the VRSA Sports Complex was recently integrated by the Sports Foundation into the national network of High Performance Centers, and is dedicated to the modalities of athletics, judo, football, triathlon and swimming”, according to the VRSA Chamber.

The VRSA Sports Complex will host another match, Canada-Belgium, on the 4th, at 15:9, in addition to «the grand finals of March XNUMX,», the day when four games will be played.
