Untitled-1The Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) will once again award «Tourism Medals» to those who have contributed the most to the region's prestige and to the development of the sector in recent years. The big winners will be announced on the 18th of January, in the auditorium of the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School, in Faro, from 15:00 am.

RTA's Executive Committee proposed the names of the personalities and entities to be distinguished in this edition, and the entity's General Assembly deliberated.

In total, 16 will be awarded the RTA award this year, currently divided into two categories: «Tourism Gold Medal» and «Tourist Merit Medal».

In addition to the medals, diplomas of merit will also be given to the former presidents of the RTA, as a way of praising the work of each one in charge of the main tourist destination in the country.

The ceremony is attended by the Secretary of State for Tourism Ana Mendes Godinho and marks the closing of the celebrations of 45 years of existence of RTA at the service of the promotion and animation of the Algarve.

The «Tourism Medals» have already distinguished personalities such as André Jordan or the ex-football player Luís Figo and are now being resumed after seven years of interruption and, in 2008, having been replaced by the Algarve Maximus Awards.
