nutcrackerThe Russian company Russian Classical Ballet will take “The Nutcracker” to the stage of the Municipal Auditorium of Olhão, on December 2nd, at 21 pm.

This classic ballet, immortalized by Tchaikovsky, is “traditionally staged at the Christmas season” due to its theme.

The Câmara de Olhão explains that the show is inspired by the story The Nutcracker and the King of Rats, by ETA Hoffmann, and “tells us the story of a girl who dreams of a prince – Nutcracker. In a fierce battle against the King of Rats, Nutcracker finds himself in grave danger. Clarinha, overcoming her own fears, enters this battle and throws her little shoes, annihilating the terrible creature and breaking the spell. Nutcracker becomes a dazzling prince».

This prince “leads Clarinha to her kingdom, the Reino dos Doces, where the Sugar Fairy shares joy and treats for the children who, like Clarinha, still have the capacity to dream”.

The municipality of Olho believes that this is «a story that stimulates the imagination of each one of us, taking us to the realm of fantasy».

The composition of O Nutcracker «perpetuated the genius of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, visible in the score of melodies such as “Dança da Fada do Açúcar” or “A Waltz das Flores”», adds the Chamber.

The Russian company is made up “of a cast of dancers graduated from the most renowned Russian choreographic schools and leading artists in some of the most prestigious dance theatres” and is directed by Evgeniya Bespalova.
