photo FLAMENCO ARTThe quartet Arte Flamenco performs on October 17th, at 21:30 pm, in the Municipal Auditorium of Olhão. The show promises, according to the autarchy, “a lot of expressiveness and sensuality”.

Arte Flamenco is formed by four artists: dancers Alicia Marquez and Ramón Martinez, singer Bernardo Miranda and musician Miguel Pérez.

The quartet is a group that, according to the Câmara de Olhão, «promotes flamenco in its three aspects: singing, dancing and playing. The show is made up of several flamenco “palos” (genres): bulerias, alegías, soleares and farrucas».

The local authority explains that “flamenco is music, song and dance, whose origins date back to Gypsy and Moorish cultures, with Arab and Jewish influence. Flamenco culture is mainly associated with the Andalusia region of Spain, as well as Murcia and Extremadura, and has become one of the symbols of Spanish culture. In 2010, flamenco was declared intangible cultural heritage of humanity by the United Nations”.

Originally, this style of music “consisted only of singing (sing) without accompaniment. Afterwards, he began to be accompanied by acoustic guitar or guitar (play), clapping, tap dancing and dancing (ball). More recently, other instruments such as the cajón (or adufe, in Portuguese) and castanets were also introduced, as well as several other instruments such as the violin, cello and flute».
